Who am I?

Filed under: Uncategorized — paulmatzko @ 8:52 pm

My name is Paul Matzko. I graduated from Bob Jones University in May 2007, completing my 22nd year at that institution; I was born in the Bob Jones hospital, played in the Bob Jones nursery, and attended Bob Jones schools from primary through tertiary. I am still discovering how the institution of Jones [Sr], Jones [Jr], Jones [III], and Jones [IV...just kidding...Stephen] has shaped me, but the degree to which I have been influenced is certainly profound.

I am now pursuing graduate studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. My advisor, David Harrington Watt, is an excellent religious historian specializing in evangelical intellectualism from the Scopes Trial to Jimmy Carter. Incidentally, one of his students described him to me as a “liberal, socialist, feminist Quaker.” Not that much different from Dr. Carl Abrams I suppose. ;-)

I am Ruthenian. I love history, hedonism, and my wife Jessica though not necessarily in that order (sorry babe, I couldn’t resist).

Above all else, I am a Christian. God’s gracious hand has kept me from destroying myself and those around me.

So that’s it. Most likely the first 15 or 20 minutes of my one little hour is already past and it fits pretty decently on a single page…
